very nice example of early French Hunting knife. The grips with gilt-brass mounts, beautiful guard with hoofed finials and shield-shaped counter guard with crossed laurel branches, the straight, single-edged blade with remains of blue and gilded. There is a moto at the ricasso, most likely in Latin. Something like "NO ME EN BAINI SIN HONO". Slightly different slogan on the reverse. Could have been reduced in size long ago. Excellent condition for its age.
